On September 21, KSFW celebrated Chuseok, Korea’s Autumn Harvest Festival, with our school-wide songpyeon-making contest.

Each class submitted their own platter of beautifully handcrafted rice cakes for family members to admire and judge.
Special congratulations go out to the students of 사철나무반 (Sacheol-Namu Class), 버드나무반 (Bud-Namu Class), and 사과나무반 (Sagwa-Namu Class) for garnering the most votes!
KSFW also invited a samulnori percussionist troupe to lead our students in an energetic performance of the ganggangsullae harvest dance, another time-honored Chuseok tradition.
Our students had a rollicking good time (and a pretty decent workout to boot!) as they whirled hand in hand around the gymnasium floor.

지난 9월 21일, 페더럴웨이 통합한국학교에서는 풍성하고 흥겨운 추석잔치가 열렸다.
개학한지 두주가 안되서 미처 익숙해지지않은 새선생님과 새친구들이었지만
함께 송편을 빚고, 강강술래 놀이를 하는동안 어느새 서먹서먹함은 다 날라가고
앞으로의 일년을 함께한다는 즐거운 기대감으로 학생들의 얼굴에는
어린이나 어른할 것없이 모두 환한 웃음꽃이 피어올랐다. 

해마다 열리는 학급대항 추석맞이 송편빚기 경연대회에서는
송편파티에 참석한 학부모들이 심사에 참가했고,
온갖 장식을 넣어 모양을 낸 사철나무반 작품이 최우수상을,
요밀조밀 예쁘고 특색있게 빚은 송편을 선보인 버드나무반과 사과나무반 작품이 우수상으로 뽑혔다.

추석잔치의 일환으로, 체육관에서는 김수아 한울림 단장이 중심이 되어 강강술래 놀이판이 벌어졌다.
구수하고 신명나는 장단에 맞춰 서로서로 어우러져 빙글빙글 손잡고 돌아가는 강강술래의 맛에
학생들은 체육관이 떠나갈듯한 함성을 지르며 한껏 빠져들었다.
